Our work translates research into practice across three interconnected domains:
1. Teaching
We integrate firsthand research experience into the courses and laboratories we teach, allowing students to engage directly with real data, real methods, and real scientific questions. Through hands-on projects, fieldwork, and collaborative analysis, students develop a deep understanding of how research operates beyond textbooks and lectures.
2. Generative AI
Drawing on findings from our research on context, event structure, language profile, and language experience, we contribute to the development of generative AI systems that move beyond speech-only output. Our work informs models that integrate nonverbal communication, including facial expressions and hand gestures, to create multimodal interactions that more closely reflect human communication.
3. Early Childhood Practice: Early Foundations Daycare
Informed by our research and extensive experience working with children with diverse developmental needs, we are developing a research-based curriculum for Early Foundations Daycare, serving children aged 24 to 60 months. Our goal is to provide a nurturing, home-like environment that supports cognitive, communicative, and socioemotional development, while offering families peace of mind through evidence-based, child-centered care.
